When we first went on-line, we all thought that we are entering an information age which will give us all ultimate freedom. We will all have access to the same information. We were about to enter an era of democracy and free thought at its height.
But a mere two decades from the start of this explosion of information and access, we are finding that instead of freedom of thought, we are limited by our own past actions. Instead of access to worlds we could only imagine, we are limited by our own imagination. Instead of connecting with strangers as friends, strangers are now our enemies. And the scariest part… we are not even aware of this ultimate limitation on our freedom.
In this TED talk, Tufekci makes us aware of the unknown so that we retain our freedom and build tools to ensure that the future remains free.
